Campagnolo Ultra Torque™ Pressfit cups allow the installation of cranks in frames with oversize bottom bracket shells.
Light weight, stiffness and easy maintenance: Ultra-Torque™. 6 years after its introduction, Ultra-Torque™ is still recognised, in terms of strength, weight saving and power transmission, as the best performing bicycle bottom bracket shaft. Campagnolo has ensured that the two axle halves of the bottom bracket are inseparable from the respective crank arms. This new development has made it possible to significantly reduce lateral protrusion from the frame and thus prevent unwanted contact between the knuckles and the crank arms during the pedalling movement. Their assembly is extremely simple, a single oversize bolt is used to firmly connect the two halves of the axle. In terms of torque transmission effectiveness, this system certainly stands up to comparison with a one-piece axle.
In addition, despite the narrow side profile, it has been possible to place the bearings outside the bottom bracket shell, making the axle, which has been given a larger diameter, stiffer thanks to the increased support width. The exceptional performance characteristics of the Ultra-Torque™ were achieved by using a system that originated in engine construction in the field of clutches and rotating axles: the Hirth™ gearing. This is a clutch connection with self-centring and self-aligning face splines, placed in the centre of the bottom bracket axle where the ends of the axle halves firmly connected to the crank arms touch each other.
